An autopsy conducted Wednesday determined that a man who died Sunday after being involved in a one-vehicle/pedestrian traffic collision on Kawaihae Road died from injuries suffered in the accident.

An autopsy conducted Wednesday determined that a man who died Sunday after being involved in a one-vehicle/pedestrian traffic collision on Kawaihae Road died from injuries suffered in the accident.

The victim has been identified as 38-year-old Jacob Freebairn of Waimea, according to the Hawaii Police Department.

Freebairn was walking east along the east shoulder of Kawaihae Road about 1:13 a.m. when a 2010 Nissan Frontier pickup that was traveling west veered across the highway and struck him near the Door of Faith Church, police said in a press release. BertJim Badua, 27, of Kapaau, who was driving the pickup, was arrested on suspicion of first-degree negligent homicide and driving under the influence of an intoxicant.

He was released pending further investigation.
